Stagnation Politics (2010 Elections)
Here we sit as we did two years on the eve of Election Day.
Do you feel polarized?
Do you feel so swept up in politics that you're tired of hearing all the ads calling for change?
Or are you like me, tired of negative ads and wondering if people even understand that there indeed is an election tomorrow?
We are a generation of people that can thrive off emotion and for lack of a better term, "propaganda," but on the adverse side, when such agents are non-existent, so are we. Without constant pressure to do our part we simply become apathetic, we simply become everything the critics say about us.
Although I sincerely hope things aren't as bad as the ending of Star Wars Episode 3, when Queen Amidala says, "So this is how liberty dies...to thunderous applause," I do believe the urgency and fear heard in her tone can be likened to the voices of so many Americans who knew things were going to change.
Unfortunately many of us forgot that change must come from a dedicated few, rather than a charismatic one. We blame President Obama for not coming through on "campaign promises," even though those of us adept enough to understand politics realize such promises seldom come true.
Republicans are set to take control of the House of Representatives, and by a long shot the Senate as well. If you're going to try and end up failing do so with passion, do so with vigor; however the stagnation which has become a symbol of our politics will again rear its ugly head, and any movement toward trying to get things done, will be a goal for the future, instead of now - as it should be.
Americans dont need much, just a little help. We don't need politics to get in the way of our hopes, but unfortunately both sides see it as the only way to continue their own personal agenda.
But maybe I'm wrong, hopefully, for the sake of progress I am.
Vote.
