Tough Times
When I see people complaining about what President Obama has not done, I shake my head and scoff at them; thinking to myself "got damn sheep." We've been so used to...well whatever we were used to before Obama declared that America was due for a change and I think in many respects we were so rapped up in his rhetoric and color (yes, I said it) that we forgot that in all actuality it would be nearly impossible for this one man to make changes...
So what did we do?
We became complacent and many of us have forgotten the unfortunate, but realistic truth, being that no longer can one man usher in a new regime of change like the FDR's and Abe Lincoln's. Corporate interest, lack of bi-partisanship and simple greed make the politics of governing to difficult to make real changes. I'm aware of what the deal is with the budget crisis and all of our other crisis' but it just seems as if Washington constantly moves in a circle of ambiguity and mediocrity. Rather than finding the solutions to the problems their constituents face, politicians fight over their interpretations of what their constituents face. Am I missing something here? He might be a democrat and she might be a republican, but what does that have to do with me putting gas in my car? Not a got damn thing. Sure, politicians say we're making progress, but I'm not feeling any of that progress. I'm one of Washington's biggest purveyors of the goings-on of politics, but even I am starting to believe that the system is set up purely for stagnation.
Did I believe Obama could make all those changes? If we lived in a monarchy, Yes, but we live in a real world, where corruption, lies and an inability to see harsh realities have become the prevailing nostrum. I believed in the idea of what the President represents, but never because of his skin color, because to be real he's still a politician. Ideas can be a great asset to those with the propensity to take the necessary steps to bring these thoughts to fruition; however there must be, at the very least, a small group of people who can reach agreements.
But regardless, I'm riding. Not based on his actions or what he hasn't been able to do, but simply because one simple idea can change the scope of history, even if it takes years to come to form. It may not come through him, it may not come through me, but the idea that common sense (which is no longer common) principles should be granted to every American citizen is dope to me. The idea that Washington can be held accountable. The idea that we all can get along.
